May 2022. You have to be in the mood for a climb and be wearing some flat, walking shoes but if you are, then the walk up to Doria Castle is a good way to spend some time in Portovenere. It's a steady climb but its quite manageable. We followed the path from San Pietro's Church, leading first to San Lorenzo Church and onwards, past two 16th.

2 reviews of Castello Doria "Gayle and I climbed up the hill to take a closer look at the Castle walls and the cool Sea views below. There was also a trail head that would have probably taken us to Riomaggiore if we had the time. And since there was no entry to the Castle from this side, we walked back down and experienced the essence of Portovenere in other ways."
